Trouble Getting answers?

Try Our Expert Research Service

We are not lawyers, doctors, CPAs, or brokers (definitely not brokers) so we can’t give you the kind of advice they can. Instead, we direct you to the right resources to save you time. Sometimes it can take hours to cut through the crazy out there, we can help with that. For example, we may give you the exact regulation citation you need or examples of services and resources to start your journey.

If you ask a question to the forum, it will be posted on the website in batches with any private information removed. If you are subscribed to the mailing list, we will let you know when new answers are posted. See the current forum answers here.

A few FAQs about the research service:

Can you help me medical question?

No, we can’t do that. We would just direct you to the Mayo Clinic website and you can go there yourself.

Can you help me qualify for Medicaid/Subsidies/Medicare?

No, not really. We can help you find the legal guidelines for your state or direct you to the (free) resources provided by the government and nonprofits. We will just tell you to tell the truth and follow the rules. If someone is charging you to help you apply for any of these things–it is probably a scam.

What if you can’t help me?

That is true quite a lot of time. Our health insurance system has some serious flaws. Sometimes the best we can do is confirm you are in the sticky jam you think you are in.

Can you help me dispute a bill?

No, that’s what patient advocates are for. We will be posting some information on finding a good advocate soon. Also, there are some great media resources working on this right now. Good work is being done.

Do I Have to Give the Exchange All My Income Information?

You only have to provide income information if you want to apply for Medicaid or advanced premium tax credits (help paying). If you are sure that you will not qualify, then you can skip that whole process. You may still get tax credits at the end of the year.  Note:...
